This year’s POPYC Installation of Officers will be held on January 27 at the Casa Lucia in Revere. Join us as we usher in our new class of officers and thank the 2017 crew for a job well done. The evening will begin with a cocktail hour and a slide show retrospective of the 2017 boating season. That will be followed by dinner, desert, an awards ceremony, and dancing.

Date/Time: Saturday January 27, 7pm
Location: Casa Lucia, 61 Lucia Ave, Revere MA
Tickets: $100 per person, in advance or at the door. Make checks payable to ” Point of Pines Yacht Club”

Note: Each full boating member must purchase two tickets, whether you attend or not. Associate and social members are welcome but not required to attend.

Cocktails and buffet dinner followed by awards and dancing. Music by Decades of Rock.

Do You Have Photos to Contribute to the 2017  Retrospective  Slide Show?

  1. At the Installation of Officers, we will be showing our annual slide show of pictures from the 2017 boating season. If you have pictures you would like to share, you may do it in a couple of ways:
    1) If it’s just a few (under a dozen) you can email them to Mike Quigley (webmaster@popyc.org)
  2. 2) For large numbers of photos, best to give them to Mike on a thumb drive. They can put the thumb drive in an envelope addressed to Mike and tack it to the sign board in the Lounge. The thumb drive will be returned to them.

Remembering Frederick P. Giardino

The Point of Pines Yacht Club Officers and Members wish to express their condolences to the Giardino family on the loss of their dear Freddy.
Frederick P. Giardino passed away peacefully on December 13, 2017, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Freddy was a lifelong resident of Malden. He owned and operated Walsh Florist in Malden for over 60 years, and was a member of the Point of Pines Yacht Club in Revere and a past member of the Malden Moose and ITAM’s club in Revere.
Freddy was the beloved husband of 55 years to Nancy L. (Fioretti) Giardino. He was the loving father of Susan Watson and her husband David and Linda Giardino-Banks and her husband Gregg, all of Malden. Freddy was the dear brother of Edward Giardino and his wife Karen and Robert Giardino and his late wife Lorraine. He was the cherished grandfather of Vanessa Watson-Bonner, Briana Watson, Nicholas Watson, and great grandfather of Shane, Aurora, Jacob, and Caleb. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.The funeral will be held from the A. J. Spadafora Funeral Home, 865 Main Street, Malden on Saturday December 16th at 9:00am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Hearts Church, 297 Main Street, Malden at 10:00am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8pm.Internment will be in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.

In Memorium: Dorothy C. (Orr) Rogers

The Point of Pines Yacht Club Officers and Members wish to express their condolences to Bill and Dana Rogers and the entire Rogers family on the loss of their mother/grandmother, Dorothy Rogers.

Born & raised in Revere, she was a resident of Beachmont, Revere all her life and a member of the 1951 graduating class at Revere High School. For many years, she was a stay at home Mom, caring for her family & for her Mom & Dad. After her husband, William J. Rogers passed in August of 1978, she began a career in 1980 with the then Bank of New England, as a reconcilliator and remained with the Bank, now Bank America, retiring in 2005, at the age of 72 years.

She is the cherished Mother of William R. Rogers & his wife, Donna L. of Saugus & Richard W. Rogers of Peabody. She was the daughter of the late, Nelson Orr & Ann C. “Connie” (Waseka) Orr. She is the devoted grandmother of Brian Rogers of Peabody, Kyle Rogers of Lynn, Dana Rogers & his wife, Juli of Swampscott & Kerri Harris of Saugus. She is also lovingly survived by her great-grandchildren, Sean & Lexi Rogers & Brooke Harris.

Sad News: Marjorie Horgan

Marjorie A. (Tewksbury) Horgan, age 93, of Lynn, died Saturday in the Mountain View Community Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Frederick N. Horgan. Born in Williamstown, MA, she was the daughter of the late Allen W. and Lorraine C (LeBlanc) Tewksbury. She was raised in Lynn, and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School. She had also taken several drafting courses.
Marjorie had worked as a draftsman for General Electric, Riverworks plant for 20 years until her retirement in 1986. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, and was a member of the Ladies Sodality. She enjoyed spending winters in Florida and summers on Cape Cod. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and had previously been a Cub Scout Den Mother. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, golfing, knitting and sewing.

She is survived by her three children; Frederick N. Horgan and his wife Eileen of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Eileen F. Lennon and her husband Richard of Chocorua, NH, and Timothy R. Horgan and his wife Eileen of Stoneham; six grandchildren; Laura Gilbert and her husband Michael of Margate, FL, Christopher Horgan of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Daniel Lennon and his wife Stacy of Carlisle, MA, Katherine Hernandez and her husband Jorge of Lawrence, Kelly Svendsen and her fiancé John Hurley of Revere and Timothy D. Horgan and his wife Erin of Reading; seven great-grandchildren; Brooke and Caroline Gilbert, Felipe and Alexander Hernandez, Augustus and Aoife Lennon, and Ollie Svendsen; her brother, William Tewksbury and his wife Carolyn of North Reading; her sister, Katherine Wrynn and her husband James of Lynn; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Robert Tewksbury.
Her funeral will be held on Friday at 9:30AM from the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rt 129), Lynn, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30AM in Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Thursday from 4-8PM. Those who prefer may make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452.
